Department of Animal Nutrition and
Nutritional Diseases
The Department of Animal Nutrition and
Nutritional Disease is one of the four divisions within the Department of
Animal Science and Nutrition at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Balıkesir
University. The department contributes to undergraduate education within the
faculty and also offers graduate education, coursework, and thesis supervision
through its Master’s and Ph.D. programs under the Institute of Health Sciences.
In addition to theoretical instruction,
practical training is provided in feed and nutrient analysis, animal feeding,
feed additives, and ration formulation. Through both scientific and applied
projects conducted in the university’s Livestock Practice and Research Center
and under real farm conditions, the department contributes to addressing
regional and national issues related to animal feeding and nutrition-related
diseases.
The main research areas of the
department include ruminant nutrition, poultry nutrition, aquaculture
nutrition, equine nutrition, pet nutrition, and nutritional disorders. Within
this scope, the department conducts scientific studies on innovative and current
topics such as microbiome-based nutrition, fermented feed technologies, in
vitro digestion trials, prevention of metabolic diseases caused by nutrient
deficiencies, reducing environmental impacts and climate change through animal
feeding strategies, and the development of alternative feed resources and feed
additives.
Moreover, the educational curriculum
integrates modern approaches such as multi-objective ration formulation methods
that consider environmental emissions, as well as practical training on
feedstuff identification and laboratory analyses. The primary objectives of the
department include planning scientific research to address emerging issues in
the mentioned areas, publishing new findings, and transferring this knowledge
into practical applications.
The department staff consists of 2
